As Democrats continue to be sore losers about President Donald Trump’s new border and immigration policies, many are trying to come up with ways to defy those laws. In the state of Maryland, for example, lawmakers have already allowed local law enforcement agents to not cooperate with Immigration and Customs Enforcement or ICE. But since ICE is still finding ways to do their job and deport illegal aliens, those lawmakers don’t feel they have done enough.
According to a new proposal set to be introduced at the beginning of the new year, the plan is to ban the existence of private ICE detention facilities. I guess they figured if they couldn’t stop people from being detained, then they can eliminate the places where the detained are held.
As the Baltimore Sun reports, Del. Vaughn Stewart, a Montgomery Country Democrat, confirmed Tuesday that he hopes to introduce the bill when the Maryland General Assembly’s legislative session begins in January. A draft version of the bill, modeled off a similar law passed in October in California, has generated interest from the Legislative Latino Caucus, of which Stewart is an associate member, he said.”
“It’s too early to determine the proposal’s prospects of becoming state law. But Stewart is optimistic of the bill’s potential for a co-sponsor in the House of Delegates and said he is searching for state senator willing to file a version of the bill in that chamber.”
According to the Sun, current federal immigration policies such as the allowance of family separations at the border are the reasons Stewart is calling for this plan.
However, what is really sounds like is that Stewart and his party are just mad that their previous plan didn’t work as well as they wanted it to.
ICE has continued to do their jobs without fail time and time again, much to the Dems dismay. When they passed a law in July that prohibited police officers from co-operating with ICE agents in any capacity to derail possible detentions, the department proved they would get their job done no matter what by catching more than three dozen illegal immigrants, all of which had felonies on their record.
Why would anyone want to allow people like this to run around freely in our communities? In Montgomery County alone, there have been more than eight rapist and child sex abusers caught in the last few months, and yet, according to Maryland’s new law regarding immigrants, these evil people are given a slap on the wrist and let go to prey again.
What kind of leaders decides this is ok? That our children and community members should be put at risk just because you don’t like our current president? Anyone in their right mind would say this is wrong on so many levels. And yet thousands in states such as Maryland are getting away with it.
Instead of siding with their constituents, lawmakers now want to make it even more difficult for criminals to be caught.
Now, as these laws have been nearly created and proposed, there are still some kinks to work out. And most come in the form of legal challenges, which are currently underway. So these proposals may not stick, only time will tell.
These Dems claim that the reason to shut down detention centers is due to the lack of clean and humane conditions there, which would be a legitimate complaint if it were true. But the answer to such problems shouldn’t ban them entirely. It should be to fix those facilities, bring them up to code, and ensure that no matter who is held there, it is a safe and healthy environment.
The fact they want to shut them down completely is a sure sign that their “proposals” have nothing to do with the humane treatment of detainees or even national securities. It all has to do with power. Right now, the Democrats have a lack of it, and they feel that by letting illegal immigrants have the run of the place, they will gain their favor. This favor then turns into votes and support, which means the hope of more political power and funding.
However, what they are inevitably doing is turning their back on the supporters and law-abiding US citizens who already support them. It’s no wonder the party is experiencing a mass exodus when leaders continue to care only about themselves and the people they were put in office to represent.
