John Durham is the US attorney, based in Connecticut, responsible for probing the CIA and FBI counterintelligence activities associated with the Trump campaign. The scope of the inquiry has expanded dramatically in order to identify others who were involved. During has been using a variety of resources and agents while also looking into the activities of foreign intelligence agencies.
Based on information from the probe, Durham has chosen to expand the investigation according to senior administration officials.
William Barr, Attorney General, was the one responsible for appointing durum following the end of special counsel Mueller’s investigation. Mueller’s investigation identified that there was no evidence that the Trump campaign conspired with the Russian government.
Barr, however, has a variety of questions regarding the timeline of events that lead to the FBI opening what’s known as “Crossfire Hurricane.” This is the counterintelligence investigation regarding the Trump campaign. Barr was hoping to get questions immediately, and it has led to even more questions.
Prior to the FBI opening an investigation, Stefan Halper met with Carter Page, a Trump campaign adviser. Halper was a retired professor and a longtime FBI informant. Later in the campaign, Halper would also have contact with Trump advisors George Papadopoulos and Sam Clovis.
Durham is looking at activities conducted by the FBI and CIA as well as activities of foreign governments to include Ukraine, Italy, Australia, and the UK.
Durham and Barr went on a trip late last month to Italy, meeting with Italian intelligence officials. Barr wanted to know more about Joseph Mifsud, a Maltese professor responsible for contacting Papadopoulos throughout the 2016 campaign. Durham and Barr have listened to an audio disposition Mifsud provided to Italian authorities when applying for police protection. Mifsud feared someone, though it is unclear as to who. Mifsud’s current whereabouts are unknown at this time.
The Justice Department also revealed that Durham is exploring whether the Ukrainian government was involved in the US presidential campaign in 2016. There were Ukrainian Embassy officials working with the DNC operative responsible for gathering dirt on Hillary Clinton’s campaign chairman, Paul Manafort.
Ultimately, Durham is up for an impossible task of investigating the investigators. Identified as a “straight shooter,” the longtime federal prosecutor has the job of investigating who was responsible for investigating Trump’s involvement with the Russian government during the 2016 election – which has now been considered a hoax for the Dems to try to get dirt on Trump so that they could impeach him.
The question is, how far did the Dems go in order to try to get dirt? Who was involved in the 2016 elections? What lines did they cross in order to secure information? How much was Trump being probed and monitored throughout his 2016 campaign?
It’s no longer just the FBI and the CIA who may have been involved with it all. That’s what Durham is trying to figure out – and there are a lot of characters that are likely to have been involved. The more that the probe goes out into the investigation of the investigators, the more questions there are. This has been going on long enough that they should be getting answers now. Unfortunately, it’s leading to even more questions – like what does Joseph Misfud know and why is he missing in action?
A full counterintelligence investigation was taking place during the 2016 election, directed at Trump. The Justice Department wants answers – and they want to know if the intelligence collection activities performed by the government, including the CIA and FBI, were “lawful and appropriate.”
The investigation was officially launched in April of this year. Since William Barr appointed Durham to the role of the lead investigator, Durham has created a small team under him. He also has the full support of the Trump administration.
Durham has had experience leading high profile, sensitive investigations in the past. He was responsible for investigating FBI agents’ and Boston police officers’ connections with infamous mob boss James Bulger and Stephen Flemmi. Durham was the one that uncovered evidence of a variety of corrupt law enforcement officials and convicted a former FBI agent on charges of federal racketeering.
If anyone is capable of getting to the bottom of exactly what the counterintelligence investigation encompassed, John Durham is the one to do it. He understands the political implications of the investigation and he has a reputation for being thorough and nonpartisan, which is exactly what needs to be done during this investigation because there has been too much political bias in past investigations, one after another.
