When it comes to present day golf icons there is no other name that comes to mind but Tiger Woods. T
his past April, Tiger Woods won his fifth green jacket in an amazing win over his competition.
President Trump has recently awarded Tiger Woods with Presidential Medal of Freedom.
Both Woods and President Trump have been friends before Trump won the 2016 election.
Shortly after he was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom, Tiger Woods came under criticism and protest from a few analysts.
Of course the criticism is large in part because of who issued the award. Kristen Welker, NBC Nightly News correspondent had mentioned the issue because Trump gave him the medal of honor.
She is quoted as saying that Woods still has a “flourishing career.”
Tiger Woods only had one win on the tour during this golf season.
He also only had one win last year.
The previous win was back in 2013 at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational.
The analyst is claiming that the award is being diminished. Eugene Robinson stated, “He gives this award, which was a hallow award, maybe someday it will be one again, to people he wants to associate himself with. And so, he likes golf.”
Jim Acosta from CNN stated, “somewhat of an advertisement.”
Making reference that Tiger Woods and the Trump Organization has done business in the past on occasion.
Jim Acosta has also stated, “The president’s company, the Trump Organization, hired Tiger Woods to design a golf course at the president’s company’s golf course in Dubai.”
He goes on to claim, “That obviously shows that there are some business ties between these two men. And I suppose a critic could argue after watching all of this that there might be somewhat of an advertisement going on here, a TV ad going on here in handing out this Presidential Medal of Freedom to Tiger Woods. It is, in effect, publicizing one of the Trump golf courses there in Dubai that Tiger Woods had a hand in. Although we should point out that particular course has not opened yet.”
Instead of praising Tiger Woods for his achievements and celebrating with him the liberal media is seeking to tear him down because of his past deals and interactions with current sitting President.
Trump said of Tiger Woods, “Tiger, we are inspired by everything you’ve become and attained. The job you’ve done is incredible.
Your spectacular achievements on the golf course your triumph over physical adversity and your relentless will to win, win, win; these qualities embody the American spirit of pushing boundaries, defying limits and always striving for greatness.”
Since the President won the election in 2016 his focus and agenda has been aimed at making American great again and renewing the lost American spirit.
His move to award a person that has shown that the dream is still alive is an inspiring story.
Trump stated also that, “He’s also a great person. He’s a great guy.” He was implying Tiger Woods in the speech.
The story of Tiger Woods will long be remembered as an inspirational theme for many generations to come.
Even when life throws curve balls at you and knocks you done, there is the chance to start over.
Tiger Woods is the fourth person in the sports to receive the Medal of Freedom.
Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus were both awarded the Medal of Freedom by former President George W. Bush in 2004 and 2005. Former President Obama awarded Charlie Sifford the award in 2014.
Tiger Woods stated that, “I tried to hang in there and I tried to come back and play the great game of gold again. I’ve been lucky enough to have the opportunity to do it again, and … the amazing Masters experience that I just had a few weeks ago is probably the highlight of what I’ve accomplished so far in my life on the golf course.”
Tiger Woods said to some reports that were asking him about Trumps and his relationship, “He’s the president of the United States. You have to respect the office. No matter who is in the office, you may like, dislike personality or the politics, but we all must respect the office.”
This is a statement that everyone in politics and the media would do well to remember moving forward into the 2020 elections.
