Representative Ilhan Omar Pleads for Imprisoned Muslim Brotherhood Leader’s Release

Since she was sworn in at the beginning of this year, U.S. Representative Ilhan Omar, Democrat – Minnesota, has created controversy at every turn. The latest shocking development surrounding the Somali-American refugee is her recent appeal for the release of an Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood leader.

According to TheBlaze, the Representative sent a tweet on April 2, 2019 commanding President Donald J. Trump to ask for the release of Hoda Abdelmonem. Abdelmonem is reportedly a senior member in the Egyptian Brotherhood’s women’s affiliate.

In the tweet, Omar said, “I recently met with @jkbadawy and @thefreedomi to talk about Hoda Abdelmonem, a political prisoner in Egypt. I hope that Trump brings up her case in his meeting with the regime that has imprisoned her. We must work to #FreeHoda.” TheBlaze’s Jordan Schachtel confirmed that Abdelmonem has been a member of the Muslim Brotherhood for years.”

The Muslim group allegedly supports the Islamic takeover of Egypt.

TheBlaze reported that “Abdelmonem remains an influential figure and a senior leader in the Islamist outfit, and the campaign for her release has been a top priority item for Muslim Brotherhood-aligned individuals, groups, and governments.”

Media outlets with alleged ties to the Islamic organization, such as Al Jazeera, Middle East Eye, and Middle East Monitor, have saturated the airwaves covering Abdelmonem’s imprisonment. They frequently portray the prisoner as a human rights advocate. According to TheBlaze, “Muslim Brotherhood-tied campaigners in the U.S. have continued a full-court press for Abdelmonem’s release.”

Interestingly, these parties stringently oppose Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi. In 2013, he overthrew Mohamed Morsi, the country’s previous leader who was affiliated with the Muslim Brotherhood. Getting Trump to request the release of Abdelmonem would call into question el-Sisi’s legacy according to TheBlaze.

In her tweet, Omar posted a picture of her meeting with campaigners who support the Muslim Brotherhood. The Representative also retweeted a post linking to an Al Jazeera video that asks for Abdelmonem to be released from jail.

TheBlaze noted that “Al Jazeera is the state-controlled, Islamist-promoting media network of the Qatari government, which uses slave labor and funds terrorist organizations throughout the Middle East. Al Jazeera regularly promotes Muslim Brotherhood leaders and groups, which seek to overthrow stable U.S. allies and install Islamist theocracies in their stead.”

From the moment she stepped into the U.S. Capital Building, Omar has continuously displayed a preference for America’s enemies. She’s also shown a distaste for U.S. friendly countries in the Middle East and peaceful reform movements around the globe. The Representative is allegedly a regular on the Council on American Islamic Relations’, CAIR, speaking circuit.

According to the Conservative Review, CAIR is “a terror-tied organization that was named an unindicted co-conspirator in the largest terrorist financing case in U.S. history.”

On March 23, 2019, Omar spoke at CAIR Los Angeles’ 4th Annual Valley Banquet. At the event, Hassan Shibly, CAIR-Florida director, was also slated to speak. The Conservative Review described Shibly as a “fan of radical clerics.”

The media outlet went on to say Shibly “has routinely refused to categorize U.S.-designated terror groups Hamas and Hezbollah as terrorist organizations, according to the Clarion Project. Moreover, Shibly regularly takes to social media to demonize the U.S. military as equivalent to the jihadi terrorists that they are fighting.”

Supposedly, CAIR-Los Angeles’ director, Hussam Ayloush, also possesses controversial Islamist views. After the deadly San Bernardino terrorist attack, Ayloush insinuated that America was “partly responsible” for the ISIS-led shedding of innocent blood. Regarding the tragedy, CAIR-Los Angeles’ director sated, “Let’s not forget that some of our own foreign policy, as Americans, as the West, have fueled that extremism.”

According to the Conservative Review, Ayloush has previously referred to America’s military maneuvers in Afghanistan and Iraq as part of an initiative to instill “fear of the Muslims.”

Earlier this year, Omar’s controversial comments concerning the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, AIPAC, angered many on both the right and the left. In her remarks, which some felt were anti-Semitic, the Representative maintained that Jewish organizations such as AIPAC purchase favors from politicians according to the Conservative Review.

However, AIPAC doesn’t donate money to political campaigns. But, CAIR does. The Conservative Review reported that Omar has received tens of thousands of dollars from this group, as well as other political action committees.
