Laws are supposed to protect innocent people. But, a recent murder in California provides yet another example of how the state’s sanctuary laws have played a significant role in the killing of yet another American.
On February 28, 2019, 59-year-old Bambi Larson didn’t show up for work according to Fox News. Larson’s unexpected absence alarmed her coworkers. So, they called her son. The California woman’s son and one of her coworkers then went to her house. They discovered Larson’s dead body in her bedroom. She suffered from multiple stab wounds. On March 10, 2019, police took Carlos Eduardo Arevalo Carranza into custody for possession of methamphetamine. San Jose police processed the illegal immigrant and collected a DNA sample from him.
Carranza, who was on probation at the time of the grizzly murder, was released. When the DNA results connected the illegal immigrant to the murder the next day, police found him and arrested him again. Police discovered Larson’s e-reader and phone in Carranza’s possession.
During a later news conference, San Jose Police Chief Eddie Garcia exposed that ICE had attempted to get a retainer on the murder suspect an astounding nine times according to TheBlaze. If granted, this would have permitted the holding of Carranza longer than his jail term so that federal authorities would have adequate time to probe his immigration status. Because of Santa Clara’s sanctuary laws, county officials blatantly ignored the numerous requests. Carranza was unbelievably released and allowed to continue his pattern of egregious crimes.
San Jose’s Police Chief revealed that the Department of Homeland Security apprehended the murder suspect at the Texas border in 2013 and deported him. A mere two years later, the persistent illegal immigrant was arrested and accused of possession of paraphernalia. He was also convicted of burglary at this time. Carranza was arrested yet again in 2016 on charges of entering and occupying a property, battery of an officer, and resisting arrest. In October of the same year, the illegal immigrant was apprehended in Los Angeles on battery charges. In January of 2019, Carranza was taken into custody on charges of possession of paraphernalia and methamphetamine.
Garcia blasted the practice of blindly releasing illegal immigrant offenders instead of working with ICE. He said, “This isn’t about politics, this is about public safety.” San Jose’s Police Chief also stated, “We are here to protect and embrace our otherwise law-abiding, undocumented residents. We are not here nor should we be here to shield admitted gangsters or violent criminals regardless of immigration status.”
Erik Bonnar, ICE field director, also commented against sanctuary laws. In a statement, he inquired, “How many more people have to be killed or injured before California lawmakers will open discussions to revise the state policy prohibiting local law enforcement agencies from working with ICE to apprehend dangerous criminal aliens?” Bonnar went on to say, “It’s unfortunate that our communities face dangerous consequences because of inflexible state laws that protect criminal aliens. These sanctuary policies have unintended, but very real, and often tragic consequences to public safety.”
Even if the incident involving Larson was an isolated one, it would still be tragic. Unfortunately, occurrences like this one are far too common, even if the left would like everyone to think otherwise. In January of this year, a 19-year-old illegal alien from El Salvador, Ernesto Martinez-Guzman, was charged with murdering four people in Nevada according to Fox News.
Meanwhile, liberals, including 2020 Democratic presidential candidates, claim the border crisis President Donald J. Trump is working diligently to solve is a manufactured one. Former Congressman Beto O’Rourke, Democrat – Texas, has even advocated tearing down existing border walls and abolishing ICE according to Fox News.
On an episode of Fox News’ “Hannity” earlier this year, host Sean Hannity debunked the left’s false accusations by interviewing nine angel moms and dads according to Breitbart. Angel parents are those who have lost a child due to some action by an illegal alien. For the heartbroken parents lining the studio set that night, the border crisis isn’t a work of fiction by a racist President. It’s a devastating reality they must live with every day of their lives. During the airing, Hannity said, “Here is our question. All of the others think it is a manufactured crisis, what would you say to the families, the thousands of them, that lost loved ones, moms and dads, sons and daughters, at the hands of illegal immigrants? When you call their loss a manufactured crisis? Because there are thousands of these families.”
As long as liberal sanctuary cities safeguard violent criminal illegal immigrants, innocent Americans are likely to pay the price. Although it may not be the answer to all of the country’s immigration problems, the President’s promised border wall can’t come soon enough.
